Dear Colleagues: It is my great honor to be able to announce the 18th JSGT Annual Meeting which will be held in Kumamoto, June 28 to 30, 2012. Over the years, with the great efforts made by the 10th President of JSGT, Professor Ichiro Matsuda, our laboratory of Dept. of Pediatrics, Kumamoto University has strived in the field of genetic disease and regenerative medicine in search for new therapies and their implementations. We have been participating from the very first annual meeting back in 1995 and since, we have worked with strong determination to discover new ways of therapies in genetic diseases. Amongst all participants, there is a common consensus that this field has matured over the last decade, particularly in recently held meetings, where we have learnt many studies that could lead to clinical applications. Many groups with these same objectives as to eventually put these technologies into practice, are working hard and collaborating ever more to overcome various obstacles to make this field a reality. The 18th JSGT Meeting, will consist of 3 major programs, including genetic disorders, cancer, and regenerative medicine and our mission will be to advance and share knowledge of the leading researches between scientists nationally and internationally. We are planning to invite Presidents of ASGCT and ESGCT, to learn the latest developments and provide a place for all participants to discuss future possibilities in their researches. Our society, with the enormous efforts of our chairman and former meeting presidents, it has been an active place to engage with many Asian scientists and I am committed to do so in this Meeting as well, in order to expand the Asian network. Education for young scientists will also be a major role in this meeting to promote research among new generation. Finally, I extend my cordial welcome to all participants and hope that this meeting will be a wonderful opportunity to present their work and actively communicate with each other.
